Back in Action- It's Australian Open Time!

Ahhhh! The beginning of another beautiful tennis season. I'm excited to announce my picks for this year's Australian Open. I will be right here with my injured ankle watching this fantastic beginning to a new season.

While its difficult for me to put a finger on the 'real' winner, I can narrow it down to who I think will be the top 5 in each category. Excited to see the madness that ensues. Stay tuned for match updates, player profiles and my colorful commentary on the Australian open in the next couple of weeks.

Women's Picks

Serena Williams - After her crappy sportsmanship last year, Serena has a lot to prove. Although she is still holding the #1 spot, she's definitely going to need to work for it.

Melanie Ouidan - Winning the heart of Americans in the US Open last year, there is only promising vision for Ouidan. I just hope that its not too much pressure on this young and rising tennis star; I am hoping to see her climb through the ranks in the next year or so.

Ana Ivanovic - I saw her match against Shanay Perry today and realized that this girls is my professional equivalent. Not always consistent but deadly when she gets that speedy serve in!

Kim Clijsters - Her amazing and impressive comeback from a hiatus and motherhood showed the world that Clijsters is far from retired, I'm excited to see what she has for us this year.

Sabine Lisicki - The truth? I just think she's a cute player and hope that she has as much fight as her German background portrays.

Men's Picks

Federer (1) & Nadal (2)l - These guys need no intro or reason why I chose them, they are the best. I'm sure that matches with these guys will be fiercer than ever as Nadal tries to climb his way back to number 1.

Juan Del Potro (4) - Always at number 4, I would love to see this colorful player get a bit higher on the scale.

Gael Monfils (12) - Monfils and his vibrant outfits and vocal playing style won my heart over early last year. Although he has dropped below the top 10, I'm confident that any matches Monfils plays will help pave his way back into the notable numbers.

Fernando Verdasco - Currently number 9 in the world, this guy not only is under the guidance of the best, but is also incredibly good looking. He dominated the Australian open last year and I do not suspect anything less from him this year.

Who are your picks for 2010?
