Tennis' bad boy- Richard Gasquet

created at: 2009-05-10

I always thought tennis was a dignified sport for gentlemen and ladies. Well, apparently no sport can go without its drama. Michael Vick was kicked off the Falcons and out of the NFL for dog fighting. Basketball's golden child Kobe Bryant cheated on his wife with some random hotel maid. Barry Bonds was a subject of high criticiscm for possibly using performance-enhancing drugs when setting the MLB's national home-run record and was charged with purgery during the Balco case even the all powerful Lance Armstrong was accused of taking performance-enhancing drugs in 2004. Why shouldn't tennis players have their drama too?

Well...French player Richard Gasquet, 5 time title holder and currently ranked No. 23 in the world has come up positive for Cocaine...Gasquet was scheduled to play at the Miami masters, where officials reportedly discovered 1.46 mg of cocaine in his a-sample. Unfortunately, he is now facing a possible ban of up to two years if his b-sample confirms the drugs.

Gasquet is only 22 years old, does he really want to mess up a couple of prime tennis years? If he wanted to try cocaine (because friends say 'he's not that type'); then wouldn't it be a little smarter to wait until you're not playing an International tournament? I mean common sense really isn't that hard. I definitely do not condone substance abuse, but if you're going to do it, think a little first. It would even be ok if it was steroids instead, because at least that's a performance enhancing drug, sheesh, what are you people thinking?
